Lost Planet

I trust you’ve already checked out other coverage of our recent MVP Summit at Microsoft. Well, I’ve finally had a chance to catch up a bit with my other work and get around to posting my pictures from the event.

So I flew down on Thursday afternoon with Alicia and Phil. We checked into our hotel, and then swung by MS to check in with the Community team there. They were busy setting up the two rooms we would be using the following day.

After that we had some time so we headed over to the Redmond Town Center. We popped our heads into the EB Games there, and then stuffed our faces (after a noon flight with no lunch) at Claimjumper’s.

I dropped Alicia and Phil off at the hotel so they could watch The Office while I headed to Sea-Tac Airport to pick up Jack, who had flown to LA that morning to sign off on our new theatrical trailer.

Once Jack and I got back to the hotel, we hung out in the downstairs lobby and chatted with our MVP guests and Microsoft Community hosts over pizza and soda. Some of the MVPs got in pretty late, especially with the crazy weather that day in some cities the guys were flying out of. We had a great time just shootin’ the breeze, talking about video games, what “community” means, and just getting to know each other. It was a great learning experience for us at Capcom especially.

The next morning my fellow Capcomers and I headed over to MS to prepare for the day’s activities. Both rooms were set up and ready to go for us.

After we got the NDAs out of the way, we started off by taking them through some single-player mode stages. I sat in the back with the wireless 360 controller and started Mission 1, explaining different things as I went. We took questions during this time, which were answered by myself and my fellow Capcomers.

After I played through a bit of the game, I handed off the controller to one of the MVPs, and they each played a bit of the game and handed it off to the next person, while everyone else watched and asked us questions about the game.

After the morning single-player session, we trekked through the rain down a few buildings to the XOC (Xbox Operations Center) where we were given a cool guided tour through some of their top secret Xbox Live server centers. Then we headed to the on-site MS cafe for some lunch, with the MVPs, Tony and the Community guys, and “e” from XOC.

After we finished eating, it was time to head back to our Summit headquarters for an afternoon of Lost Planet multiplayer. We had 8 stations set up running multiplayer, with 2 stations on the ends running the single-player campaign. I and some of the other Capcom crew even sat in on a few matches. I had everyone playing on the Pirate Fortress map, and after a while I set the host machine to cycle between Pirate Fortress and Dilapidation, the second map included in the special version of the MP demo (which you can download with the token you get when you pre-order).

Everyone seemed to be having a great time. To encourage more smack-talking, prizes were even given out. Later on in the afternoon Tina Wood stopped by and filmed the proceedings, and she had some smack-talk of her own to share with everyone.

Major Nelson even stopped by to check things out. You may see/hear some Lost Planet stuff from him in the near future…
