Okay, I have an excuse for not making this particular show. It was all the way up in Canada. But we had a few Capcomers up at the event showing off Lost Planet as well as Dead Rising – Rey Jimenez, Associate Publishing Project Manager, and Arne Cual-Pedroso, Public Relations Program Manager.

Rey took a few pictures and did a cool write-up of the event for me:

X06 Canada had a great turn out. If you don’t know what it is, it’s one of the premier Microsoft events held in Canada to showcase the Xbox 360. It was held on 10/18 in Toronto at the Brant House. Several publishers participated in the event, so there was something for every gamer.

The day started off with members of the press coming to check out what’s new and hot. We were showing builds of Lost Planet and some little known title, Dead Rising. Everyone already knew and loved Dead Rising, so we just had it showing just for the 2 or 3 people that actually haven’t played it yet. Like always Lost Planet was met with much adoration and anticipation. We actually had a new version of the current demo that’s been out since E3 to show off. We’ve had a lot of time to absorb feedback from the community since E3 to figure out ways to make it better. Based on these comments, the new demo (which has the same maps as the E3 demo) has improved AI, better textures and graphics, slight changes to the level layout and thermal energy dynamic, and a much requested melee attack. So now, just by hitting the B button, players can deliver pain via the butt of Wayne’s rifle.

After the first part of the day, the press was ushered out, we took a short break, and then it was time for the MVPs. This is a local group of gamers that were invited to the event because they are the trendsetters and the movers and shakers of the Xbox 360 community. In other words, they know their games. Their reaction to Lost Planet and Dead Rising was the same as with the press—they were all really excited about the games. Even though many of them have played the demo already, they still came up to play it, and when we told them about the improvements made to the demo, they loved it even more.

All in all, the event was a great success. I’m a gamer, so I took the opportunity to get my hands on some of the other new stuff on display. I personally checked out Guitar Hero II and their new axe for the 360, along with Forza 2, Gears of War, Kane and Lynch, and the new Virtua Tennis. The Xbox community icon Major Nelson was on hand and there was a cool Q&A session with the creators from Epic. Oh yeah, I did an on camera interview with the ‘oh so cute’ Julie from Electric Playground, so be sure check that one out.

So Toronto, thanks for the great time, the greatest Holiday Inn ever conceived, and to whatever kept me out until 5 in the morning.

I guess what happens in Toronto, stays in Toronto…

Below are the pictures Rey brought back from the event.
