Post details: A funny thing happened (to the pre-order cards) on the way to the stores...

If you pre-ordered Lost Planet and were met with dumbfounded looks when you inquired about the pre-order card with the code for special version of the multiplayer demo, you are not alone. There were some issues, which we are truly sorry for, and things should be back on track now.

Here is Sven’s run-down of what happened:

Ok, there’s been much powwowing among the sales team, our retail parters and our executive group here.

Gamestop (including EB Games) has proven to be the one people are most interested in so let’s start there.

The tokens were shipped to GS in advance of Black Friday, however they were unable to move them from their distribution center to the store levels in time because of the holidays. I apologize profusely for that.

As of this Friday (most Gamestop stores nationwide should have it now, but let’s say Friday to be sure ALL stores have received the tokens) anyone who has preordered at any time should be able to go back into their Gamestop and pick up a token to receive the extra map.

Tonight (Monday night) an email to the stores from GS corporate will educate the managers at each Gamestop on the details of the program (so at minimum they should be aware of it). In addition, a “marketing tab” pertaining the to promotion will be in the December 4th materials all store managers receive, again, reinforcing the program’s awareness with managers and staff.

Also, starting December 4th – December 24th, there should be a large *** banner in every Gamestop that is promoting the pre-order program, specifically calling out the VS figurine gift. If you walk into a Gamestop that doesn’t have a banner up on December 4th, again we’d like to hear about it (post below or PM me).

The VS figurines will be received by the first people who pre-order at Gamestop when they go to pick up the final game on its ship date. If you really want one, pre-order early and make sure you pick up day one because I promise you, we will have more pre-orders at Gamestop than the number of figurines we’ve made (we’ve made a lot, but we’re already seeing a LOT of pre-orders).

So that’s Gamestop.

Wal-mart and Best Buy both have to some of the Emory cases (DVD cases) with the tokens inside them in some locations already. Many of the people I’ve been playing nightly with have picked them up from one or the other. Over the course of this week, they should be nearly universally available in both chains.

In Wal-mart’s case, depending upon their plan-o-gram, the Emory cases with either be at the registers in the Electronics department or in the Xbox 360 software display case. EVERY single Wal-mart location is participating in this promotion so they should be ubiquitous soon.

Best Buy’s cases for the new “store layouts” should be near the front of the store as you walk in (which is where video games are showcased). For older stores, they should be in the video game area. Now, there are a few Best Buy stores that unfortunately weren’t allocated units, but we are in the overwhelming majority of them so you should see them.

Gamecrazy is also participating in the promotion however we’ve not yet been able to confirm receipt of the tokens at the store level due to some people in corporate still being on vacation. We believe that they are in play there, we just don’t have confirmation.

Transworld is also participating in the promotion. In this case, tokens will be kept behind the counter so you’ll need to speak to a clerk (similar to Gamestop) to secure one.

To our Canadian friends, unfortunately neither EB Canada, Best Buy Canada nor Wal-mart Canada were able to fulfill the tokens so they are solely going for gift with purchase (to be named later) with a preorder.
