Beyond3D Gets Technical With Lost Planet

Permalink 05:25:25 pm, Categories: Capcom®

During this year’s CEDEC 2007, two members of the Lost Planet development team, Takami Taki, Technical Manager, and Yasuhide Sawada, a programmer, held a talk about our MT Framework engine, the engine used to power Dead Rising, Lost Planet, and the upcoming Devil May Cry 4. They talked about the engine’s initial roots on the PS2, the challenges of developing for the next-gen systems, and some very technical talk about the features and specs of the engine itself. Beyond3D was there with all the coverage.

Lost Planet, originally titled Third Planet, initially was in development for Sony’s PlayStation2 from April to December 2004. The title, already featuring a setting similar to the end-product released on the Xbox 360, was targeted right from the start at the North American and European console game market. During this stage the 20-man team grew interested in an extensive particle effects system, ranging from snow storms to explosion. However, the project was moved to the Xbox 360 in 2005 due to severe performance limitations on the PS2. The fact that the MT Framework was already in development at that time made it the obvious choice for Lost Planet.

Hiroyuki Kobayashi Interview On ActionTrip

Permalink 03:40:15 pm, Categories: Devil May Cry®

Those action fanatics over at ActionTrip recently tracked Devil May Cry 4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi and managed to squeezed some DMC4 information out of him, such as the development of DMC4 on the PS3, the effect of Nero being the main character (As opposed to Dante), what’s new with DMC in this 4th iteration, and making DMC more accessable to everyone.

ActionTrip: The Devil May Cry series has always retained a great number of devotees. Are there any particular aspects of the game fans have complained about earlier, which you are looking to improve upon in DMC 4?

Hiroyuki Kobayashi: There were a lot of fans who felt that the Devil May Cry 3 controls were very difficult. Giving consideration to that, we have tried to give new users as well as older fans an easier starting point from which to get into the game. There are some tutorial elements at the beginning that help players learn the basic controls, and the difficulty ramps up at a bit of a slower pace. I’m not saying the game will be simple, as there will be plenty of difficult gameplay for veterans of the series. These games have always been noted for their challenge, and that will continue. However, this game will certainly be easier for anyone to pick up than Devil May Cry 3 was, and should also provide satisfaction for veterans, especially in the later stages of the game where some significant challenges await.

Head on over to ActionTrip read the whole interview.

Fox Mobile Entertainment & Capcom® Interactive, Inc. offer game with hundreds of questions, simulated students and all the excitement of the popular Fox TV show

LOS ANGELESOctober 3, 2007 – Kids, get ready to outwit your parents as Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?™ makes its mobile debut in the United States. The mobile game will incorporate all the charm, humor and deceptively difficult questions of the wildly popular FOX game show from Mark Burnett Productions in a portable format optimized for the mobile experience.

Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?™ for mobile is the perfect opportunity to entertain the whole family while on the go,” said Fox Mobile Entertainment Senior Vice President, Mitch Feinman.

As in the show, the Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?™ mobile game asks a series of questions ranging from subjects like U.S. History, math and social studies. If a player performs well they can work their way to the $1 million question*, however if they falter they’re forced to utter the unenviable phrase, “I am not smarter than a 5th grader.” To aid the player in their pursuit, simulated students provide “peek,” “copy” and “save” assistance just as they do on the show. Additionally, sound effects from the series complete the experience.

Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?™ has become a national phenomenon, and we’re thrilled to work with Fox Mobile Entertainment to adapt this irreverent entertainment experience to the mobile platform,” said Capcom Interactive President, Midori Yuasa. “Using the TV show as a blueprint we will deliver a title that remains true to the brand, while incorporating a uniquely Capcom flair into the design.” Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?™ mobile will be available on wireless carriers throughout the United States in the coming weeks.

Tune-in to FOX, Thursday, Oct. 4, (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) as the show enrolls a new class of 5th graders chosen from a nationwide search.

About Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?™
Acclaimed comedian Jeff Foxworthy is at the head of the class as host of this hit game show, which measures adults’ knowledge, or lack thereof – as revealed by how much they’ve forgotten since grammar school. On October 4, the show will enroll a new class of 5th graders chosen from a nationwide search. Adult contestants find themselves revisiting their youth in a classroom setting, tackling subjects they’ve already been taught – from art to geography and math to social studies. When test questions derived from actual textbooks used in the 1st through 5th grades prove to be too challenging, contestants are not alone; there is a way to “cheat” in this classroom. Adults can get some elementary help by “peeking” or “copying” off of or being “saved” by their actual 5th graders to help them graduate toward the top prize of $1 million.
